Does the noise in my head bother you?

Fashion Rocks

This coming Thursday, the band and I have what looks to be, an incredibly exciting gig! We will be sharing the stage with Evolver once again (remember the band that I was so pissed with for cutting our set short not too long ago?) they have since that incident redeemed themselves in my eyes as at the last gig we did with them (2nd time we played with them) they seemed to have settled down and even complimented us and our music. So let’s hope it all stays on a happy path.

The gig is a big one because its being held at one of the casinos, and its a fashion show with South Africa's hottest models. Once they have finished showcasing the latest trends, the bands will play. We're up 2nd which means that we get to play and then enjoy the rest of the evening - or leave (it’s quite far out this casino). I am planning on staying, I have even promised one of my mates that I will be his wingman, since he doesn’t have any of his bloke mates joining him. Work at Friday is not going to be fun, but it’s all in the name of rock n roll. Yes... that was supposed to be cheesy. ;)

been hit

Now normally when I say I have been hit, I mean by a person, I also mean that it was at training while I was sparring, so that's perfectly acceptable! This time I don't mean that. Nope...I have been hit by something MUCH worse - the winter flu.

Don't think I'm being dramatic here - normally if I have a cold, I will happily state it and move on, but this bloody flu has seen me cancel 2 gigs with the band this week - 2 BIG gigs, one of which is a battle of the bands, and if we get to the finals then we would have a chance to share the stage with Seether. **sigh** I had the choice to go and do it, I just think that trying to sing at the moment would do the band more harm than good.

I was off work on Monday half day and yesterday - doctors orders... today I gracefully waltzed in (by gracefully, I mean I staggered in like the hunchback of notre dam reeling from far too much happy juice) sat down at my desk and then let off a volley of sneezes that left my office mates wide eyed and jumping to open the windows in the hope that my germs would evade them and run amuck in the outside world. Eventually at 3pm I left to come home and sneeze my head off here... it's not pretty and the sneezes see me bending in half - but I still giggle at the look on their faces!
You know how it is, if you can't see the bright side to everything... where is the fun in living?

Love ya

ow ow ow

At training last night, after the streching, our instructor decided that we should go road running. That would be great, apart from the fact that we had to do it barefoot. My feet hurt. It wasn't hugely far or anything of the sorts, it was however tar, and the missing skin on my feet will be the reminder that in future, when the instructor mans says "no shoes! Shoes are for wussies!" I will proudly wear that wussie badge and run in shoes! dammit.

Happy friday!

Weekend away

This weekend the band is heading to gorgeous Magaliesburg to record a few songs! OK, so its winter, might not be so gorgeous, and it is bound to be FREEZING (as an understatement) but it should be hell of a fun.

We are staying on a farm where the recording studio is, and will be forced to do some heavy bonding. Which means we will either come back all Brady bunch like, or we will kill each other. hehehe - who knows!

We are doing 3 or 4 songs this weekend (well that’s the plan) and its costing us a bit, or it seems like a bit because we aren't really making that much at the moment. New band, hard industry to crack... but were hoping that it will get easier once we have something to send to radio stations. So - wish us luck. Will post our songs up here when they are back and mastered!

So - last night we had a gig. It was so cold last night that there was hardly anyone there, only the hardcores. Something that I have to get over is people bailing out of gigs. It's a pet peeve; don't tell me you WILL be there! hell you're even going to book a table... it's going to be awesome! And then not pitch. That is just not cool.

Despite the lack of people, we rocked our asses off on stage. It was one of the best gigs we have had, purely because it was so much fun! We laughed, joked, the people in the crowd that we knew gave us horns, we gave em back - and we played our hearts out! The response was wonderful, the other bands were very cool and they seemed to enjoy it a huge amount, what can I say... I am loving all things band.
At one point last night, the very last song in fact - our bass guitarist was going mad, and he managed to pull the chord out of his guitar, but kept playing, despite the lack of sound, which had our drummer laughing so hard that he had to stop playing - man, I giggled my ass off - in between singing of course, I am a professional after all. hehehe!

Life is good. I hope you can all say the same!

**bounce**

Somtimes I feel like a Jack Russel (yes, I just called myself a dog - heh). An excitable one... probably on speed considering my energy levels.

Think about it, my general attitude is like this:

It's Monday - YAY!! Band practice tonight!!
It's Tuesday - YAY!! MMA training tonight!!
It's Wednesday - YAY!! Band practice tonight!!
It's Thursday - YAY!! MMA training tonight!! (or a gig, it depends)
It's Friday - YAY!! It's Friday!! <insert the evening's events here>

and well - the rest of the weekend continues in that vein, be it gigs, climbing, my saturday MMA lessons with Ozzy, seeing mates, seeing family, going running with my mom or even veging out and doing nothing all day but couch bonding. Serriously - is anyone allowed to be this enthusiastic this often?? If I was an outsider I would have me put down. I would ya know.

**mental note to self, try being more moody when it comes to the evening events - just to balance everything out**

The weekend!

Friday was drinks with Suz and then Gareths birthday - 30th... how old are we getting man? ;)

Sat was a morning of battering my eyelashes at mechanics and getting my breaks done and the hand break adjusted for free, hehehe, being a chick rocks, and then I had a private MMA lesson with Ozzy doing jits, which was brilliant, he thinks I'm a fab jits student, and it could be because he was grappling with a girl, and that in itself is always different for a bloke, or that he really thinks it!

im at a new MMA school now, the old one didn't work for me training wise, I mean really - I want to know that my training will lead me somewhere, gradings, official fights, the ability to leap into the crowd from the stage and not get hurt... heheh that sort of thing.

On Sat the band and I went to the black dahlia for a gig... that was fun - a whole bunch of very long greasy haired emo kids with skinny jeans and superficial cuts from blunt grapefruit spoons trying to act cool and hold their booze. Always entertaining. Ah well, we had a decent reception considering were not heavy metal.

Sunday I cooked up a moussaka that was so good there was nothing left by the time my family went home. Dad had the rest of it in a tupperware for lunch today. hehe and then I went and did nooooothing!! I couch bonded. yeah baby. That is what sundays are all about!

life

EXCUSE ME PEOPLE - didn't you see the last post <really sad and depressed face, goes right here> WE HAVE A POTENTIAL RECORDING CONTRACT IN THE PIPELINE! Ok - now that I have that out of the way - life. Yes - life. uuuuuuuuuuuum - ok - I’m boring, what do you want. My life consists of Kickboxing, MMA, Gymming and the likes - it’s the band, a competition or three - a severe haircut and much cooking. What?!?!? You’re asleep cos I’m so boring - ok WAKE THE FARK UP PEOPLE (sorry mom)

THE BAND - holy mother of crap - we have been working our asses off - and because of this - we have been going all over the show. Now to you international people that isn't huge - but dammit - I'm coming from a 3rd world country - its bloody huge OK??  (Love you Donna and Mo) we have opened for a very well known South African band called Evolver. Wow what a bunch of c**ts. I hate that word - I really do. But they are.

Let me start at the beginning. Evolver - as I might have mentioned are a huge SA band - played on the radio (to the point of me wanting to attack the radio because they need new material) and we (as in the band and me - The Ragoo) got asked to open for them at a local gig. Man we were so excited - hell I was bouncing up and down like a jack russle on heat!! We got to the venue at 5pm on a sat - it was when we were supposed to be there for sound check aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... NOTHING WAS HAPPENING!!! Bloody nothing. So we sat and waited - told all the relevant people who we were, what we needed to do like sound check) and sat. grrrr

At about 7:30 pm (after the doors were opened to the public) the sound arrived - people rushed from a - z setting up - putting cables together, making the noise people do when doing their job (I’m such a technical person aren't I?) and EVENTUALLY band #1 went on. Man - they sucked. All covers (bad covers) and they sat there for an hour and a half. You couldn't have budged them for all the money - they were bad) we were due on 3rd... We were called up right after band #1... why you may ask - because they took 1.5h (yes.. that’s right AN HOUR AN A HALF) to assault the crowd with their particular brand of crap (I am sorry if I sound harsh- but really - they blew huge chunks) and we got told - "move your asses you are on next - and if you are not off the stage by 10:20pm - then Evolver will not go on. It is in their contract - so move your arses!!" I’m sorry - but how hectic is that??? And might I say - what a bunch of wankers. Sheesh - they even went up to the organiser - while we were on stage, and said”they better be done soon, or we won’t go on"

THE WHOLE CROWD WAS THERE TO SEE THEM!!!!

Don't they remember what it is like to be at the bottom - starting and working your way up?!? Man how bloody sad.

We had the time of our lives that night. We had the crowd screaming like little girls at a Britney concert - alot of people said that through their behaviour - Evolver did nothing but damage themselves - and all I ask is that should my band and I get that popular, and I am NOT saying it will ever happen... then I hope to all things holy - that we get slapped down and fast by the people closest to us, and to the ones who have the most influence on us should we ever become such pricks!

Regardless - it was an awesome gig!! People want to sign us from it - so look out world - The Ragoo is coming!
