11 December power cut updateSo here we are sitting in the dark… again. Welcome to Africa. Due to our electricity suppliers being outdated and so much construction happening in SA we find that we have quite a bit of electricity load shedding at the moment. So basically they will shut down the power in various areas for 2 hours here and then two hours in another area etc, just to make sure that their generators don’t blow due to the strain. While a romantic candle lit dinner (I have a gas stove thankfully, so I can still cook) is wonderful, it’s even better when a) there is someone to share it with you and b) you can switch the lights on after and run a hot sink of water for the dishes. Being able to have a hot bath too is a good thing. Ah well… guess I’m gonna have to grin and bear it. *grins* It’s just the DYING of boredom at work. My job is done on the internet (no man, I’m not a porn star!). So the power goes, and the thumbs start twiddling – and the blog gets updated, hahaha – so one good thing does come out of this! God I hope they get this crap sorted before we host the 2010 Soccer world cup…
Yesterday was my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary. They were planning on having lunch in Venice on their 30th, but a lack of planning seems to have gotten in the way. I guess we will have to wait for the 31st one and then all celebrate with cocktails on the beach in Cancun. We are however heading to Cape Town as a family this week. Mom and dad leave on Thursday and I join them on Friday. My sister only comes down on the 21st, but hell, it will be the first Xmas in three years that we will have spent together, so I can’t wait. I just wish I knew what the hell to get everyone. Mom and dad are sorted (opera tickets to Aida ~ sorry dad!!) but the sister… what the hell do you buy someone who has more shoes than Elton John, all the kitchen gadgets recommended by Jamie Oliver, cd’s and DVD’s coming out her ears, doesn’t have or want any pets and quite frankly buys anything that catches her eye anyway? I am so stumped. Bugger.
On Friday I went to a friend’s farewell. It seems a lot of people I know are moving down to Cape Town. It was an interesting night. Started off kinda quiet, but by the end of the evening it was like a bloody high school reunion (shoot me) – with all those cool people who would never speak to me apart from to indult me of course, who now want to buy shooters, and hug and be all warm and fuzzy. So I let them buy the shooters. Hehehe. They might as well be good for something now huh? I did have to kick one of the drunker ones. In my defense I did warn him. J If I say “leave me alone”, or “seriously now – piss off, I will hurt you” then chances are I will hurt you, or try too. (I think this could be the problem with kick boxing… I seem to think I really can take on the world now… it’s a great feeling!) By the end of the evening a few of the ex jocks had decided we were friends, and there were farewell hugs and promises to stay in contact (which will be difficult considering I gave out the wrong number – but really, why would I want to hang out with a bunch of ex jocks who’s glory years, thus far, was their final year in high school… why?)
Saturday saw a friend of mine age another year, so we decided on drinks in the park. The rain gods decided on drinks in her flat. Guess who won? So we packed in the flat, had a few drinks, talked kak, had a laugh, watched a real life soap opera unfold in front of us (take an overprotective big brother, with his newly married and also over protective wife, watching the little sister getting pissed out of her tree and being hit on by the very stoned / unbalanced / slammed drummer of the birthday girls boyfriends band. Add in some snot and tears and a temper tantrum, then the almost porno like attacking of each others tonsils – a family fight and angry parents picking up the said pissed little sister) it was interesting. (Read: highly amusing) From there I went to the red room, which is a rocking little club out on the other side of the earth, where for once, there was no vibe and the music sucked… two hours later I decided it wasn’t worth it, went home, had my tea and watched a few episodes of scrubs. Dr Cox is my inspiration. I love that man.
Last night was keeeeeeek boxing (man I’m gonna miss this while I’m in CT) and then TV night. I am addicted to Monday night TV, and more specifically – to the biggest loser. UGH – damn you Bob and Gillian. What can I say, I think it helps me stay on the straight and narrow (she says chomping on a chocolate muffin with a caramel center that one of the guys t the office brought in!) ;)
Tuesdays – Sushi night! I can’t wait! Tonight I’m heading out to the gym, then out with my sister and a bunch of mates for half price sushi (yes I do shower first… really people, what do you take me for?). I know you are all thinking… half price sushi? UGH – you are so gonna get food poisoning, but trust me on this – the sushi is AMAZING. (I’m so excited!)
So – Thanks to all you wonderful wonderful people we are still coming 1st in the HP competition! *whoop whoop!* So far so good, the comp is about to heat up but I have a good feeling about this. Let’s hope it’s not the warm fuzziness from my latte… hmm…
Now the power just came back on, so best I get back to work before it falls over on us again!
Much love to you all! me 04 December Naked Flame needs YOUR Help!Hellooooo everyone!
Thank you so much for the bday wishes, that really made my day, so hugely appreciated! :)
I had a great birthday - I had non stop calls, sms' and facebook messages all day from loads of friends and family! The gig that night went really well, turnout wasn't great due to the pissing rain <grrr> but the response from the people there was fantastic! The best present of the day had got to be a call I recieved later from a friend of mine, who had left the gig and was driving home - he heard one of our local radio stations playing our song innocence!! he called me to tell me, and hell, I started bouncing like the energizer bunny on speed!
We have now entered a competition with HP (the pc / printer etc giants) The competition on the site sits as such:
"Based on viewers’ votes, five lucky bands will get their chance to rock the stage for the finale show on the 31st January 2008 at The Venue at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg with one lucky winner walking away with an HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook PC and an HP iPaq 514 Voice Messenger for each band member as well as an exclusive 2 week online media campaign showcasing the band and winning music track. All top 5 finalists will not walk away empty handed; they will receive an HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook PC exclusive from HP. The final winner will be announced on the 1st February 2008" Please please please will you go there and vote for us - we are Naked Flame, it's under my name Julia King (so now you know!) The URL is: http://www.designyourpersonallife.com/za/vote.aspx?FID=30 - you can only vote one time per email address, so if you have more than one addres, please use them and send it on to your friends, enemies, pets, family and basically anyone with a pulse! We are dying to break into the SA music scene in a big way so we can be hounded by the paparazzi... tee hee!
That aside - life carries on, still not smoking, still kick boxing and gymming - i have a few guys interested in me at the moment as well (mom - don't get your hopes up... you know i bore easily) so might be heading out on a date or two at some point, will see how I feel!
Im heading to CT on the 14th, which will be awesome, we are going there for our Christmas party as most of the company is based in Cape Town, and whats great is they have said I can stay there and work out of those offices, which I am really amped about - my folks and sister are all gonna be in CT for xmas, and i was so mis last year without them that this year we are gonna have to make up for it - I see winelands, I see shopping trips, I see a cable car up the mountain - I see all of this happening while I am stuck at the office being the nana I am and not having taken any leave. *sob* :) aaaaaah well it builds charicter I tell ya!
So - my BIG present from the folks this year, was TV cabinate... ok well half a TV cabinate, I bought the other half cos really now - i may be a spoilt brat, but there are limits :) I now own my second peice of adult furniture, lol - the first one I bought was the bed for my sapre room - my place is fully furnished, and it is all mine, but it is hand me downs - good stuff, but not necessarily what I would choose to have should I have gone out shopping for it, so I am in the process of refurbishing my flat. The dark wood of the TV cabinate goes so well with the blood orange of my wals! hehehe ... aaaaah you think im kidding don't you? tee hee, i should take pics of my place and post em so you can all lie about how much you like the orange! hahaha
